Mill Gate Shopping Centre Recognised with Second Prestigious Green World Award
Mill Gate Shopping Centre has achieved international recognition by winning a Green World Award 2026, one of the world’s leading accolades for environmental excellence.
Selected from more than 500 nominations worldwide, the centre was honoured for its drain installation project in its toilet facilities.
This latest award follows Mill Gate’s success in winning its first International Building & Construction Green Apple Award in 2024, which recognised the same project and led to the centre being named a Green World Ambassador.
The Green Apple Environment Awards are part of an annual international campaign that recognises, rewards, and promotes environmental best practices globally.
Launched in 1994 by The Green Organisation, these awards have become one of the most respected environmental campaigns worldwide and have expanded into the Green World Awards, the largest global environmental awards programme.
“This award underlines our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said Angela Tierney, Centre Manager.
“At Mill Gate, we strive to create a shopping environment that not only meets the needs of our community but also sets a standard for green practices in the industry.”
As part of this achievement, Mill Gate Shopping Centre received a prestigious Green World Award trophy and certificate at a presentation ceremony at the iconic Cardiff Castle in Wales.
The winning project will also be published in The Green Book, the only international reference work on environmental best practice, enabling organisations around the world to learn from its success and be inspired to follow its example.
In keeping with the environmental ethos of the awards, trees will be planted to offset the carbon footprint created by the prizegiving event.
The award highlights Mill Gate Shopping Centre’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reinforces its role as a responsible and forward-thinking destination at the heart of the Bury community.
