WrapUpBury raises over 1,500 donations for the homeless
A Mill Gate Shopping Centre initiative to support the homeless has saw over 1,500 donations of clothing, toiletries and pet food from members of the public since launching in December. Over £250 in cash donations has also been raised.
WrapUpBury was set up to assist the 4,000 people in Greater Manchester sleeping rough or relying on temporary accommodation according to recent figures from homelessness charity, Shelter.
In partnership with four local homeless charities; Red Door, Bury Homeless Project, ReBuild and Freedom Church, #WrapUpBury saw a shop unit transformed into a donation hub where visitors could drop off items.
Bury Homeless Project also held information sessions on housing advice and homeless support services in the space.
Mill Gate Shopping Centre Manager, Marie Gribben, commented: “Homelessness is an issue very close to our hearts and we wanted to create a simple way for our shoppers to help out. The number of donations coming in is a real testament to the strong community values held by the people of Bury and beyond. We’re extremely grateful to all those that have contributed.”
Donations are still being welcomed in the WrapUpBury unit (located just opposite Carphone Warehouse) between 10.30am – 2.30pm each day. Outside of these hours, donations can be handed into Customer Services.
