Grotto Launch - 25 November

Shoppers enjoyed the festive entertainment at Mill Gate yesterday (25 November) when Santa opened his grotto. This was the first of four Sunday events the shopping centre is hosting in the run up to Christmas.

There was comedy from Scrooge in his musical carriage pulled along by Mr Scratchit. They entertained shoppers with their renditions of famous Christmas hits from artists such as Wham! Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey.

A rather eccentric Snow Queen called Snowella rode around on a chariot drawn by snowmen chasing a giant Robin. Shoppers stopped what they were doing to watch the pantomime pair do a lindy hop dance routine. Youngsters enjoyed making Christmas fairies and reindeers decorations at the free Christmas craft workshop.

On Sunday 2 December Bread and Butter will entertain shoppers with their Christmas Crackers and Festive Elves. On Sunday 9 December a sprinkle of seasonal magic will come from the Elves who will be checking who has been naughty or nice for Santa on their Goodometer. On Sunday 16 December Mill Gate will be host to the world’s one and only octogenarian sequence trolley dancing duo Granny Turismo will be there to entertain. Santa will be in his grotto on Union Arcade every day until Christmas Eve to receive present requests. Tickets cost £4.50 and include a present and booked online at or you can just turn up at the grotto.

Mill Gate manager Marie Gribben said: “We’re gearing up to a busy and exciting festive period at Mill Gate this year. With over 100 shops and restaurants at Mill Gate shoppers can get everything they need for Christmas.”

“There will be lots of fun entertainment in the run up to Christmas to spread the festive cheer.”
