Mill Gate’s fresh facilities celebrate local talent

Mill Gate throws the doors wide to its new quarter of a million pound toilets today.

The brand new modern conveniences located in Minden Parade feature famous words from luminaries of Bury including Victoria Wood, Danny Boyle and the band Elbow. The three quotes were chosen by Mill Gate staff.

Mill Gate’s Jean Leckenby, the owner of Leckenby’s Tea Rooms, celebrated her 70th birthday with the honour of cutting the red ribbon – or rather a red toilet roll.

The larger, modern facilities include men’s and women’s bathrooms, disabled bathroom and baby change amenities. The facilities are in line with Mill Gate’s sustainability policy with features such as energy efficient lights and hand-dryers.

Mill Gate centre manager Marie Gribben said: “We are delighted to open the doors to our new, modern, stylish facilities. We also hope our shoppers enjoy the quotes by Bury’s greatest talents.

“We would also like to say a big thank you to Jean for opening the facilities this morning and for all her long service at Mill Gate.”

The three quotes featured on the walls of the bathrooms are: “It’s a good place when all you have is hope and not expectations” Danny Boyle “Oh, anyway, it’s looking like a beautiful day” Elbow “Stop pouting. Stop shouting. You know I pulled a muscle when I did that grouting” Victoria Wood
